There are countless benefits of hiring a dog walker that are important to both dog and owner alike! Here are just a few of them…

1) Dog walking promotes health & exercise!

At one time, many years ago, dogs weren’t provided easy meals and shelter like today’s domesticated pets. They needed to endure intensive, both physically and mentally draining hunting activities in order to eat and survive. Today, however, everything they once had to struggle for is easily provided; there is no need to challenge themselves mentally or physically.

There is no other way to say it; dogs need exercise in order to remain healthy and happy. Unfortunately, obesity is an enormous concern among pets, partially due to two reasons: a poor diet and lack of exercise. Simply said, a regular walk is vital to your pet’s health!

Health Benefits of Dog Walking Include:

  • Cardiovascular fitness
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Stronger muscles and bones (built up by walking regularly)
  • Decreased stress
  • Weight Control

2) Daily walks help eliminate destructive behavior.

Have you ever come home from work to a ripped up magazine, or chewed up pair of shoes? Undesirebale behavior, such as barking, chewing, biting, and scratching can be greatly reduced by exercise. Dog walking helps relieve excess pent up energy, providing a natural, enjoyable outlet for your dog. Scheduling a dog walker to come midday will often assist with deturring destructive or anxiety driven behavior, helping your pup both physically and mentally, aloowing you to come home to a relaxed pet and clean home!

3) Walks are very important to weight control.

An overweight pet isn’t a healthy pet, no matter how it is rationalized. Just like people, extra weight on a dog can lead to diabetes, heart disease, respiratory issues, cancer, decreased quality and length of life…the list goes on. Excess weight can be especially detrimental to older dogs, adding a painful strain on again joints and enhancing the likelihood to develop arthritis. Imagine your arthritic grandfather was forced to march around with a 60 pound backpack all day; the idea sounds excruciating!

Dogs rely on their humans to take them out and get execercise, so if you don’t have time, or work all day, please consider hiring a dog walker! Your dog will thank you!

4) Socialization is key!

Most dogs thrive on socialization with both humans and fellow doggies, but they must have frequent contact to keep them friendly and social. The more dogs are walked, the more they become used to the sights, sounds, and smells of the outside world. They’ll be less nervous or anxious to be outside, and their overall happiness will greatly increase. Our private walks are great for pups who love human connection, but if your pup loves other dogs or needs more interaction with them, we’d recommend scheduling a buddy walk!

5) Ah, sweet relief!

Do you know how often your dog should be going outside everyday? While frequency depends on a number of factors such as age, breed, and size, veterinarians recommend that all dogs should be taken out 3-5 times per day. Adult dogs should have an opportunity to “go” every 6-8 hrs, and although your pet may be able to “hold it” for longer, please keep in mind that she is at a greater risk for urinary tract, bladder, and kidney infections. Puppies and senior dogs should be let out even more often…every 2-4 hours to be on the safe side.
